There are over a hundred hotels in Kyiv, as well as many hostels of various concepts, styles and service levels, and for different budgets. We are used to the fact that the city guests usually rate accommodation facilities, but it’s interesting to know where Kyivites themselves like to stay. Maia Stepova, co-owner of the modern Kyiv cuisine restaurant HLEK, a participant of social projects to support and develop modern Ukrainian gastronomy, farms and craft family production of foodstuffs, shared her favourites in the field of hospitality and comfortable stay.

Sophia Hotel Kyiv

Located in the very centre of the city in an incredible atmosphere of cosiness and a thousand-year history, the new Sophia Hotel Kyiv is an ode to Ukrainian hospitality, culture and art. This unique project is the result of the work of the best in their fields Ukrainians. Architects from Balbek Bureau worked on the design of the rooms. Ceramics created by Gunia Project masters and canvases selected by connoisseurs of modern art from The Naked Room Gallery were used in the interior design. Together with the publishing house IST Publishing, they formed an individual library for each room, and conceptualist and perfumer Vlad Zvarych invented an original fragrance for Sophia Hotel Kyiv. Roman Tatarskyi, a Canadian of Ukrainian origin, is the ideologue of the project.

The hotel is located in a building dating back to 1881, and this is another cool feature of the hotel, a fascinating synergy of history and modernity in the city. Sophia Hotel Kyiv is about cosiness in each of its 39 rooms, bold combinations of Ukrainian and European flavours in Cafe Marco (named after the progressive writer Marko Vovchok), freshness of greenery among the stone walls of the city in Walnut garden, practicality and aesthetics in every detail.

“I love it for the modernity both in service and design... Its ritzy location in the historic centre of Kyiv”

Of course, the interior of the InterContinental also impresses with a high-quality combination of services and elegance. The hotel has 272 rooms of the Standard, Suite, Luxury categories and luxurious Royal and Presidential apartments. An must-do for InterContinental guests is relaxation in the luxurious spa complex and an evening cocktail in the ‘b-hush’ lounge area on the roof with a panoramic view of the centre of Kyiv.
