Menorah Monument

The Menorah is the most popular Jewish national and religious symbol. So, that is why this bronze figure was installed in Babyn Yar in memory of the Jews exterminated by the German occupation authorities in Kyiv. The Menorah sculpture, painted with bas-reliefs depicting a biblical scene of sacrifice, stands on a stepped granite plinth. The tiled Road of Sorrow leads to the monument from the nearby Jewish cemetery. Architect Yurii Paskevych, engineer Borys Hiller, artists Yakym Levych and Oleksandr Levych worked on the monument. The monument was unveiled in September 1991 on the 50th anniversary of the first mass shooting of Jews.
