Monument to Hryhorii Skovoroda, 1976, Kontraktova Square

The monument to Hryhorii Skovoroda, the outstanding Ukrainian enlightener, philosopher, poet, and educator, stands in a small park on Kontraktova Square, facing the complex of the former Epiphany Brotherhood Monastery, part of which is now occupied by the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy.

The monument to the philosopher in Kyiv was erected in 1977. Its authors are sculptor Ivan Kavaleridze and architect Vasyl Hniezdylov. The bronze full-figure statue of Hryhorii Skovoroda is mounted on a low pedestal made of polished black granite. The philosopher is depicted as a traveler, embodying his lifelong search for truth and spiritual harmony. An inscription is engraved on the front side of the pedestal.

The monument to Hryhorii Skovoroda is an integral part of the architectural complex of Kontraktova Square, harmoniously complementing its historical and cultural landscape.
