Urban Estate

The Urban Estate is one of the oldest estates in Kyiv’s Podil district. Since the late 18th century, it belonged to the Kyiv merchant F. Lakerda and his descendants, later passing into the ownership of merchant A. Frolov in 1902.

The estate includes the remains of a brick house with a basement dating from the late 18th century (2a Andriivskyi Descent), which survived the 1811 fire on Podil. In 1899–1900, according to the design by architect M. Kazansky, the building was expanded and raised to three storeys with an addition facing Andriivskyi Descent.

In addition, the estate complex comprises four more buildings:

  • Income House, 1913–1915, 2b Andriivskyi Descent;

  • Income House, 1909–1910, 2v Andriivskyi Descent;

  • House where philosopher P. P. Kudriavtsev lived in 1913–1915, and historian O. P. Ohloblyn in 1919–1943, late 19th century, 2h Andriivskyi Descent;

  • Residential Wing (Annex), late 19th century.
