«Arsenal» Factory

The Arsenal Factory is one of Ukraine's largest manufacturers in the field of instrumentation, specializing in optical devices and optoelectronic systems. Founded in 1764 as " workshops arsenal" it was established to produce and repair artillery equipment for the Pechersk Fortress. Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the factory played a crucial role in repairing and manufacturing various types of weapons, including artillery components like gun carriages and shells. By the early 20th century, it had become the largest enterprise in Kyiv.

In addition to its production and administrative buildings, the factory featured several residential houses for workers, as well as its own kindergarten, school, library, and free hospital. Since 1946, Arsenal has shifted its focus to producing optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electronic devices for both military and civilian applications, including guidance systems, targeting equipment, self-guiding devices, and instruments for observation, measurement, analysis, and photography.

At one point, the factory supplied optical-electronic navigation systems for all Soviet spacecraft. In the second half of the 1990s, Arsenal began mass production of optoelectronic devices for the medical field. One of its priority areas is the production of high-precision gas metering devices. The factory also manufactures banking equipment, such as banknote and coin counters, as well as LED traffic lights.
