Babyne Lake, situated in the southern part of Trukhaniv Island, is an elongated remnant of the old Dnipro channel. Before World War II, a workers' village thrived near the lake, but it was tragically destroyed by the Nazis in 1943. According to local legend, women would come to the lake to wash clothes and raise geese and ducks, which inspired the its name.
Stretching nearly 700 meters in length, Babyne Lake reaches depths of over five meters in some areas. Its northern arms are crossed by the Podilsko-Voskresenskyi bridge, which is currently under construction. Plans are in place for the "Trukhaniv Island" metro station to be located between these two spurs.
Isolated from the Dnipro, the lake is gradually becoming overgrown, with its shores predominantly covered in bushes, while sedges and cattails flourish along the edges and in the shallow waters. The lake is home to 23 species of fish, making it a popular spot for fishing enthusiasts. The absence of human disturbance has transformed this area into a sanctuary for wildlife, where you can encounter a great variety of plants and animals.
