Botanical garden

The Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine ranks among the largest botanical gardens in Europe, both in terms of its extensive territory and the diversity of its living plant collections. This unique garden boasts around 11,180 taxa from 220 families and 1,347 genera. It is part of Ukraine's nature reserve fund and is designated for natural and historical-cultural purposes.

The idea for the botanical garden was conceived in the autumn of 1918, coinciding with the establishment of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. However, construction did not commence until the autumn of 1935. Today, the botanical garden serves not only as a beloved recreational spot for Kyiv residents and visitors but also as a leading scientific institution in Ukraine.

The garden houses eight scientific departments that focus on research related to plant introduction and acclimatization, dendrology and park science, the conservation of rare and endangered plant species, as well as the selection and genetics of ornamental, fruit, vegetable, and forage crops.
