The memorial on Trukhaniv Island stands as a solemn tribute to a once-thriving workers' village that was entirely destroyed by German occupiers on September 27, 1943. This settlement comprised 14 streets, two alleys, and a main square featuring a church. According to pre-war census data, over a thousand people lived here, primarily fishermen and river port workers.

In 1985, to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Victory over fascism in World War II, a striking bronze sculpture of a soldier in a wrecked boat was installed at the site. This memorial is one of Kyiv's most unique and poignant military monuments, designed in a simple yet evocative style. At its center stands a stele engraved with the names of the fallen residents of Trukhaniv.

Surrounding the stele are symbolic elements that reflect the peaceful life of the village and the tragedy it endured. This touching site serves to preserve historical memory, silently reminding us that the devastation of war reaches not only major cities but also small communities.
