National Bank of Ukraine

The National Bank building, stylised as a Florentine palazzo of the Renaissance era, is one of the architectural gems of Pecherski Lypky. Initially, it was designed as a two-storey building, but in Soviet times, when Kyiv regained the status of the capital, two more floors were added to it. After that, the year of reconstruction “1934” was added to the dates of the original construction “1902–1905” on the façade.

Vertical accents on both sides of the entrance portal are decorated with the coats of arms of Kyiv, Podolia and Volyn Governorates, and also symbols of trade, industry, agriculture and transport. In 2004, a departmental museum was opened in the premises of the Bank; its exposition tells about money circulation in Ukrainian lands from ancient times to present day.
