Thanks to artificial aeration and ongoing maintenance, Telbin Lake boasts rich and diverse flora and fauna. The waters are home to various fish species, including bream, roach, crucian, carp, goby, tench, perch, pike, and zander. Two species of turtles can also be found here, along with ducks, seagulls, swans, mallards, geese, moorhens, and coots. The opposite shore is adorned with reeds, cattails, and sedges.
However, the true highlight of Telbin is its stunning water lilies. A few years ago, residents of Bereznyaky undertook the meticulous task of planting these beautiful aquatic flowers in the lake, carefully placing their rhizomes in the reservoir's soil.
In ancient Greece, there was a legend about a nymph who, in her unrequited love for Hercules, transformed into a beautiful flower, waiting each day with open petals for her beloved. This myth is said to have inspired the Latin name for the water lily—Nymphaea.
Slavic folklore also views water lilies as representations of mermaids. According to legend, they transform into flowers by day and, at night, lure young men and women into the water, playfully tickling them to their demise.
As you stroll through the park on the opposite side of the beach, you’ll discover a vibrant oasis filled with colorful aquatic blooms. The lake is adorned with white, red, yellow, and pink water lilies that bloom until October. However, each water lily flower only lasts for four days. It rises to the surface to bloom in the morning and hides beneath the water at night. On cloudy days, they may not bloom at all.
