This elongated lake, stretching from north to south, is located in the Dniprovskyi district of Kyiv. On early 20th-century maps, it appears labeled as Frolovske. Historically, the lake would connect with the Desenka River during spring floods, and it may have originally been a branch of the Desna.
The name "Radunka" is thought to be linked to the root "Rodun," and in Slavic tradition, to "Rodonytsia" or "Radunytsia"—spring days dedicated to honoring the deceased. Another theory suggests the name originates from the ancient Slavic god Rod, a deity of family, birth, fertility, and ancestry. Rod held significant importance in Slavic mythology, symbolizing family values, marriage, procreation, and lineage.
The lake's banks are partially covered with trees and air-water vegetation. In the southern part, common reed predominates, while in the northern part, it is accompanied by narrow-leaved rush. The lake is home to wild ducks, martins, and other bird species, and visitors may even spot muskrats and turtles in its waters.
