The monument to Prince Volodymyr is the oldest sculptural landmark in Kyiv, erected in 1853. It stands on the lower terrace of Volodymyrska Hill, overlooking the Dnipro River from the right bank—a true architectural gem of the Kyiv skyline.
The monument features a 16-meter-tall pedestal designed in the shape of an octagonal Byzantine-style chapel. Atop it stands a 4.4-meter bronze statue of Prince Volodymyr, holding a large cross in his right hand and a grand ducal hat in his left.
Remarkably, this monument is one of the few pre-1917 structures that survived the Soviet era. It underwent restoration in 1953-1954 in time for its 100th anniversary. Over the years, it has become a symbol of the city, often regarded as a hallmark of the city of Kyiv. In 1988, to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus, the monument was even featured on a commemorative coin. Today, it serves as a place of pilgrimage and celebration for religious holidays.
