«Eternal Glory» Park

The Eternal Glory Park is a picturesque area nestled on the steep slopes of the Dnipro River, situated between Lavrska Street, Glory Square, and Dnipro Descent. Covering a total area of 18.37 hectares, this natural and cultural monument has a rich history that began in the early 1890s. At that time, General Oleksiy Anosov, the commandant of the Kyiv Pechersk Fortress, took it upon himself to improve the area, funding the project with his own resources and the support of patrons. For a period, the park was named in his honor as Anosov or Сommandant (Komendantskyi).

The park features several observation platforms that offer incredible panoramic views of the left bank of Kyiv, the Dnipro River, and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. However, the Eternal Glory Park serves not only as a recreational space but also as a memorial dedicated to the tragedies endured by the Ukrainian people throughout history.

In 1957, the Eternal Glory Memorial was inaugurated in the park to honor the soldiers who lost their lives during World War II. This memorial includes a 27-meter obelisk at the grave of the unknown soldier, where an eternal flame burns, as well as the Alley of Heroes, which is home to military burials.

In 2008, the construction of a memorial complex began to commemorate the victims of the Holodomor of 1932-1933. The Holodomor, a devastating famine, is recognized as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people orchestrated by Stalin and the Soviet leadership. This complex includes the National Museum of Holodomor-Genocide, the poignant sculpture of the girl titled "Bitter Memory of Childhood" (also known as "Girl with Ears of Wheat"), angel sculptures, the Black Boards alley, and the central element of the complex—the Candle of Memory.
