About the place
The Park is located on the upper and middle Dnieper terraces between Lavrska Street and Dniprovskyi Decent. It has been known since 1894 (its previous names are Commandant’s Garden, Anosovskyi Garden, Kirovskyi Park). At that time, the park had a different layout and a much smaller area. Now its territory stretches from the ramparts of the Old Kyiv-Pechersk Fortress (citadel) to the historical site of Askold’s Grave.
The following sites are located in the park: Eternal Glory Memorial with an obelisk on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier; Alley of Military Glory where heroes of many nationalities who defended the Motherland during the Second World War are buried; the National Museum of the Holodomor-Genocide, which highlights the history of the genocide of the Ukrainian nation in 1932–1933, with the sculpture Bitter Memory of Childhood (A Girl with Wheat Stands) whose idea is authored by Petro Drozdovskyi and made by sculptor Mykola Obeziuk; and a sundial.
The Park has several sightseeing platforms offering terrific views of the Left Bank of Kyiv, the Dnieper, and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
