The Pivnichnyi Bridge connects several major residential areas of Kyiv, including Troeshchyna, Voskresenka, Raiduzhny, and Obolon. Built over five years under the direction of engineer Georgy Fuks and architect Anatoly Dobrovolskyi, the bridge was inaugurated on December 3, 1976. It consists of three main components: a unique asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge spanning the Dnipro, a bridge over the small tributary Desenka River, and an overpass leading to Trukhaniv Island. The A-shaped pylon, supported by bundles of cables, reaches a height of 119 meters, surpassing both the Motherland Monument and the Great Lavra Bell Tower. There were proposals to place a restaurant or a sculpture honoring Kyiv's founders—Kyi, Shchek, Khoryv, and their sister Lybid—atop the pylon. Ultimately, it was adorned with a five-meter copper coat of arms representing the capital. At the time of its construction, the Pivnichnyi Bridge was the largest cable-stayed bridge in the world.
