About the place
The Chocolate House, so named because of the colour of the walls and its rustic style, was built in 1901 by order of the merchant and philanthropist, Semen Mogilevtsev. After his death in 1917, political figures, including Christian Rakovsky, and scientists of the All-Ukrainian Academy of Sciences lived in the house.
Following its restoration by Alioshin in 1934, the building hosted, at different times, the All-Union Society of Cultural Relations with Abroad, the Central Palace of Marriages, the Children’s Art Gallery, etc. Since 2010, the Chocolate House has been open to visitors, and various events, exhibitions, and photo sessions are held in its halls.
