Trukhaniv Island is Kyiv’s largest island and one of the oldest on the Dnieper. Before the Second World War, there was a village of Vodnyky with several thousand residents, which was regularly flooded. In September 1943, the settlement was burned to the ground. After the war, the village was never rebuilt, and over time, a recreation area was built instead on the island.
There are several beaches here, including the Central Beach, boat centres, bases and grounds for various sports, and recreation and entertainment complexes. Trukhaniv Island is well landscaped and has unique vegetation. A bicycle route passes through the island, and after the reconstruction in 2020, an entrance space and new illuminated recreational locations were opened here. The Green Pearl in the middle of the Dnieper River is a favourite vacation spot for Kyivites.
