Located near the city center, this beach is one of the most popular relaxation spots among Kyivans. It was the first public beach in the capital, established on Trukhaniv Island in the summer of 1918 by German soldiers stationed here during the time of Hetman Skoropadskyi. To reach the island and enjoy swimming, Kyiv residents paid 5 kopecks for a boat ride, as the Pedestrian Bridge was not yet part of the plans.
After World War II, the beach gained huge popularity, hosting mass events, sports competitions, and festivals. Small boats frequently shuttled between the shore and the beach, affectionately known as "lapti" and "kaloshi." However, the construction of the Pedestrian Bridge in 1957 made access to the island much more convenient.
Central Beach offers stunning views of Podil, Khreshchatyi Park, and Volodymyr Hill. Its facilities include changing rooms, showers, toilets, cafes, bars, and playgrounds for children, as well as sports grounds. Nearby, you’ll find a parachute tower and tennis courts.
Although the opening of the metro station and the emergence of beaches in Hydropark have diverted some visitors, the natural beauty and diverse recreational opportunities of Trukhaniv Island's beaches continue to attract Kyiv citizens and tourists.
