Voskresenska slobidka

Voskresenska Slobidka, located between Desenka and present-day Voskresenskyi Boulevard, has been known since the 16th century as "Evstaffiivska land." This territory once belonged to Ostap (Evstafiy) Dashkevich, a chieftain of the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks. Dashkevich, one of the earliest Ukrainian Cossack leaders, hailed from the princely Glynskyi dynasty, descended from Rurik and Mamai. He is considered a founding captain of the Zaporozhian Army.

Upon his death, these lands were bequeathed to the Voskresenska Church in Podil, which Dashkevich had built. The name "Voskresenska Slobidka" derives from this church.

In 1934, Voskresenska Slobidka was incorporated into Kyiv. Starting in the early 1970s, a planned demolition of the village began to make way for residential areas. By the end of the 1980s, the slobidka was almost entirely replaced by the Rayduzhnyi and Voskresenskyi housing estates. Only a small section of old Voskresenka’s private, archaic buildings remains, located south of Radunka Lake along Mark Cheremshyna Street.
