The legendary hill is located between the Honchari-Kozhumiaky tract on one side and Podil on the other. According to the popular version, before Prince Kyi of the Polans founded the city on the Old Kyiv Hill, his fortress had stood on the Castle Hill. In the 14th century, a wooden castle was built here, which became Kyiv’s administrative centre during the Lithuanian and Polish rule.
However, even during the reign of the princes of Rus, no one settled on the hill, and the castle built by the Lithuanians burned to the ground three times. In the mid-19th century, the cemetery of the Florivskyi Nunnery was arranged on this site and a church was built. But in the 1930s, they, too, were ruined and dismantled. Later, many aspen stakes were found nearby — obviously, those were the remains of the witch burials. Today, admirers of mysticism and mysteries will find ruined graves, an old crypt and recently constructed mysterious temples on the Castle Hill.
