About the museum
The reserve is responsible for the preservation of the architectural complex of the oldest Orthodox monastery in Ukraine (first mentioned in 1051), its artistic and historical and cultural heritage. The Lavra architectural ensemble is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, which occupies about 26 hectares, has long been conventionally divided into two parts - the Upper and Lower.
The Upper Lavra is home to the most famous land monuments: the Assumption Cathedral, the Trinity Gate Church, the Church of the Savior on Berestov, as well as the National Museum of Decorative Arts of Ukraine, the Museum of Book and Printing of Ukraine, the Museum of Theater, Music and Cinematography of Ukraine, and the Treasury of the National Museum of History of Ukraine.
An Orthodox monastery is located on the territory of the Lower Lavra. In the hill below it lie the labyrinths of the Near and Far Caves, an extensive system of man-made underground corridors, in which an underground necropolis is located, sacred to Orthodox Christians.
