National Museum of Taras Shevchenko
The National Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv was created on the basis of the former Taras Shevchenko Gallery of Paintings in Kharkiv and the Central State Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Kyiv.
There are more than 4 thousand exhibits in 24 halls. The museum has more than 800 original paintings, portraits, drawings, etchings by Shevchenko, personal belongings of the poet, and photocopies of his manuscripts.
The museum building is a 19th-century Italian Renaissance palace that belonged to philanthropist and entrepreneur Mykola Tereshchenko.
In 2014, the museum underwent a large-scale reconstruction, which transformed it into a modern cultural and artistic center. Therefore, the main priorities of the museum are now: inclusiveness, international contemporary art exhibitions, interactive exhibitions, children's and educational programs.
