The Kyiv Municipal Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (Kyiv Opera) is a theater in Kyiv that was established in 1982 as the State Children's Music Theater. It was the first (and currently the only) theater of its kind in Ukraine and the second in the world. On February 1, 1985, the theater opened with the opera Winter and Spring by the founder of Ukrainian music Mykola Lysenko. Since 2019, the theater has been positioned as the Kyiv Opera House, and it adheres to the policy of performing works of the world opera repertoire in Ukrainian.
