The orchestra was founded in 1992 on the initiative of V. Okhrimenko. In 2006, the orchestra received the status of “academic”. In its performances, the Kyiv Academic Municipal Brass Band combines Ukrainian folk music with such genres as funk, jazz, rock, and others. Since 2021, the orchestra's chief conductor has been Honored Worker of Culture Mykola Lysenko Jr. (grandson of Ukrainian composer, pianist, teacher, collector of song folklore, and public figure Mykola Lysenko). Since 2023, it has been performing under the name Kyiv Orchestra - Kyiv Academic Municipal Brass Band.
