Lukianivske Military Cemetery

In 1945, a part of the Lukianivske Cemetery was allocated for the burial of soldiers who fought in the World War II. This is how the Lukianivske Military Cemetery was created. Today, it covers an area of some 5 hectares. Thousands of soldiers, including 102 Heroes of the Soviet Union, are buried there in mass and single graves. The names of only 4,483 people representing 14 nationalities have been established. In the 1950s, the central entrance was decorated with an architectural arch. Mass burials at the Lukianivske Military Cemetery have been banned since 1988. Only burials in family graves are permitted.
