Monument to Petro Sahaidachnyi

The monument to the outstanding Ukrainian commander Petro Konashevych Sahaidachnyi was erected in 2001. The total height of the monument is 5.5 metres. Crowds of young people always gather near the monument. It is also a favourite place for dating. Petro Sahaidachnyi was the Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host, who made successful campaigns of the Zaporozhian Cossacks against the Crimean Khanate, the Ottoman Empire, and the Tsardom of Muscovy.

What concerns Sahaidachny’s personal life, it is known that he was married to Anastasiia Povchenska. Their family lived in Kyiv. They had only one son, Lukash. However, it is believed that their marriage was not a happy one, because in his Last Will, the Hetman instructed to donate his property to churches, schools, hospitals, monasteries, rather than to his wife.
