The mosaic ensemble “Man and Nature”

The buildings at 24 and 28 Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard are adorned with 11 mosaics created by the renowned artist couple Anatolii Haidamaka and Larysa Mishchenko between 1967 and 1973, forming a series titled “Man and Nature.” Three of them are located on building No. 28 and are combined into the triptych “The Birth and Death of the Forest.” The theme of the triptych is connected to a furniture store that operated in this building in the second half of the 20th century. The second panel of the triptych is titled “Birds Build Nests.” At its center stands a large tree with bird nests nestled in its crown. The trunk of this tree no longer exists, as an entrance opening was later cut into that section of the wall.
The mosaic ensemble “Man and Nature,” which includes the monumental work “Birds Build Nests,” has been granted the status of a newly identified cultural heritage site (monumental art).
