Urban Estate of the 19th Century

The estate complex comprises two residential buildings. One of them, a corner house, was built in the 1810s in the Classical style and originally belonged to the burgher Mykhailo Kukunin. The second building, constructed in 1865 according to a standard (“model”) design in the Late Classicist style, was commissioned by the new owner, Hryhorii Tkachenko.

The structure forms a two-storey, L-shaped volume, internally connected yet visually separated along the façades. The main façade fronts Pokrovska Street, extending seamlessly into Pokrovskyi Lane, which emphasizes the estate’s corner position within the historic urban fabric.

Together, the buildings represent an architectural layering of early and late Classicism, illustrating the evolution of Kyiv’s residential architecture in the 19th century and contributing to the authentic streetscape of the Podil district.
