In a small square at the foot of St. Andrew’s Church, a gazebo was built at the expense of merchant and philanthropist V. Kokorev (simultaneously with another pavilion located on the slopes of Volodymyrska Hill near the funicular).
The design and metal construction of the gazebo were carried out by the Warsaw firm “Gostynski & Co.”. The site leveling plans and drawings were prepared by engineer Ye. Yermakov, who also supervised the construction.
The pavilion is hexagonal in plan and resembles a Chinese pagoda in silhouette — a likeness created by the upward-curving eaves of its tented roof, crowned with a sharp lantern and weather vane.
