The neoclassical building of the Main Post Office at the intersection of Khreshchatyk Street and Independence Square was erected in 1958. Previously, this place was the estate of Johann-Sygizmund Eismann, a pharmacist and owner of a brick factory that produced the famous yellow Kyiv brick. However, during World War II, it, like the previous “Palace of Communications” that stood nearby, was destroyed.
The modern building of the Main Post Office houses Ukrposhta, the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Ukraine, and the State Department of Communications and Information, and the building itself is considered an architectural monument of local importance.
