This is one of the oldest squares in Kyiv, located in Podil. In 1846, a post office was built here, although the square received its name even before that. The area acquired its modern appearance in the 1970s during reconstruction associated with the opening of the metro station of the same name here. In addition to the historic post office building, the square is home to the rebuilt Church of the Nativity of Christ, the lower funicular station, and the river station. A few years ago, during excavations on Poshtova Square, archaeologists found an entire street from the times of Kyivan Rus and numerous artifacts from the 11th–13th centuries. In the future, it is planned to build an underground museum complex based on them. In 2015, a fountain was opened in the center of the square, and 2 years later, the sculpture “Kids Launching Boats” was installed near it.
Poshtova Square is popular with skaters and longboarders. During the warm season, there are always a lot of people here, street musicians play, dance evenings and other events are held.
