It was laid out in the 1810s as a result of the redevelopment and development of Podil after the fire of 1811 and was named after Emperor Alexander I - Oleksandrivsk. The street received its current name in honor of the Cossack hetman Petro Konashevich-Sagaydachny in 1989.
At the corner of Sahaidachny Street and Poshtova Square stands the Church of the Nativity of Christ (1809-1814, architect A. I. Melensky); nearby is the Poshtova Square metro station, a funicular. Many houses from the 18th-19th centuries have been preserved on the street.
